Registration is required for all classes. Please do not show up at a class without registering or contacting PEG Studio staff.
Rescheduling
If you need to reschedule, please contact pegstudio@nashville.gov. Please be aware that failure to cancel your class reservation within 48 hours of class start time will result in a loss of your fees and class credit. Notify NECAT or PEG Studio staff if you are going to be late. If you are going to be more than 20 minutes late for any class, please reschedule. If you leave early on nights of class, you may have to retake the course per discretion of the instructors.
Classes
Production 1
Learn all of the technical elements of working in our TV studio: Camera Operation, Video Switching, Audio Engineering, Conducting Interviews, Lighting Design and Teleprompter Control. You also learn the Floor Director and Technical Director roles.
- This class is required for all new members.
- Production 1 students must attend entire duration of class to gain credit.
- After you complete this class, you will automatically earn a Technician level membership for your first year at the studio.
Production 2
Learn the elements of putting a series together, managing a studio, collaborating with crew, and becoming a NECAT Producer. This class is only required for those who want to become a Producer.
- Prerequisite: Production 1
- Each night of TV Production 2 class must be taken within the same week. However, TV Production 1 and TV Production 2 do not have to be taken within the same month.
- After you complete this class, you will automatically earn a Producer level membership for your first year at the studio.
Editing
Learn video editing fundamentals to give your content a complete, professional look. Course is solely taught in the Adobe Premiere Pro editing software and taught on our in-house editing computers.
- Prerequisite: Production 1
- Important: All videos worked on in the editing classes must be for content that is intended to air on the NECAT Network channels.
- Please, do not show up at the studio unannounced for class without contacting and confirming with the instructor first. Days and hours for Editing Class are flexible but adjusted dates/times must be discussed with the instructor beforehand.
Green Screen and Lighting
Learn the basics of the chroma key compositing technique for layering two images or video streams together based on color hues (chroma range). In addition, you will also learn proper lighting techniques to make your green screen work appear seamless.

Audio
Learn professional audio fundamentals including: Signal Flow, Microphone Theory and Microphone Technique recommendations.
- Prerequisite: Production 1
